Is Fall Here? + Mena, AR and Midland Tx
Well it looks like fall,a little. Just back from a week out to the Mena Hamfest, it is an interesting event, with lots of "old home week" but not that much in the equipment department. Beautiful place to go tho, and a good place to do a swap. Hope it picks up some next year, If I can tie to a visit to Tulsa, Ill be there!! Forget staying up on the mountain, you cant get room or an RV space, unless you know somebody or some thing.
But plenty of places in town that are nice. Course if your wife wont go to a hamfest, you need to stay up on the mountain, not gonna happen though, have her drop you off!!
Was nice to put some faces with some calls and I dare say the average age made me feel kinda young at 63...Some folks been going up there for a long time!! It was nice as was Tulsa and coming back home to drier weather was good. Looks like that will end again tonite or tomorrow. Yesterday, Sat th 16th of Sept, Midland had a tailgate party and it was great also, good hot dogs and plenty of coffee and soft drinks, as well as donuts...mmmmmhmmmm! Fair amount of equipment for sale or trade there too. And, that evening, the doves were back and the hunting was good!! How could you ask for more? Cool front and rain coming they say though. Gotta go to Austin and Dallas very soon, hope I see you there.
Belton is coming right up, hope everyone gets to come this year, should be nice weather and always lots of trading , buying and selling. Theres a new motel on the end of the Belton event place but its's twice what we usually have to pay around town. Maybe they will come up with a special event price, cheapest thing I could find there was $109...no thanks.....CU there if not before....73 Murray K5MDM
