"I am writing you to thank you for the wonderful job you did on my TS-820 which I picked up from you on the 9th of July... I am very please with the job you did on it and I am pleased to say that it is going like a Japanese house on fire!
G.S.,
"Gentlemen:
My transceiver is now functioning as it did when it was brand new in 1983. My first QSO was with a station in Japan. Since your company was recommended by Mr. Paul Schaefer of the DXCC staff of the ARRL, I will inform him of my satisfaction, which I m sure he will be pleased to know.
Yours Sincerely,
"Just a quickie to express my satisfaction with the results of your recent work on my TS-450. To refresh your memory, you replaced a couple of faulty components, installed the monitor, straightened out my inept installation of the Voice Squeezer, and then peaked out and tweaked the rig according to your usual checkup procedure. While I was impressed with the detailed report of tests and adjustments, and the accompanying description of problems getting the right replacement ribbon-cable from Kenwood, I am specially pleased with the radio's overall performance on SSB using the Voice Squeezer in conjunction with the 2.1-kHz filters, and on digital modes (AMTOR/PACTOR) with the 400-Hz filter. Initially uncertain about any substantial benefit accruing from the monitor, I nevertheless requested it to be installed while the radio was on the bench, figuring that the apparent 'frill' would simply enhance the ultimate value of the rig. However, now that I have gotten used to having my own voice in my ear while transmitting (I use a lightweight mic-boom headset), I find the monitor a real help. The sidetone induces me to maintain my vocal output at a conversational rather than the typical 'DX shout' level, making precise articulation a lot easier, greatly reducing fatigue, and minimizing the ever-present possibility of overdriving the TS-450's transmit audio chain and the following Ameritron AL-811 amplifier, when used. I'm now thoroughly accustomed to this new feature, and find it not only convenient, but necessary, especially when the 'Squeezer' is active (always during SSB voice QSOs). Of course, it 'took some getting used to'; I had to unlearn the proclivity to raise my vocal effort when responding to a noisy or weak station. Having found a mic gain setting that both makes full use of the 'Squeezer' and yields satisfactory modulation when I speak at normal level and pace, I find the monitor to be a genuine operational enhancement, way beyond a mere convenience. Keep on keeping on, guys - you done real good!
