We receive frequent inquiries about how our products work with this radio.
Here's an explanation which may help:
For SSB, you can install ONE filter, replacing the OEM filter. This
requires a little board we call the SSB ADAPTER BOARD. We solder the filter
to it, and send instructions for removing the OEM filter and installing our
assembly. We charge $10 extra for a filter this way, because of the Adapter
Board. Thus a single SSB filter ordered to replace the OEM filter is $125
(plus S/H).
Our choices for SSB are:
The OEM filter is 2.4 kHz.
For CW, you can install one filter in the option slot. It comes on a little
pc board and plugs in, just like the Yaesu optional filter would. We don't
have to use the special SSB Adapter board, so the price of a single CW
filter is $115.
Our choices for CW are:
AM works like CW. Our filter is #710, 6000 Hz wide, $115 -- comes on a
little pc board and plugs in, etc.
OR -- to make the radio the best it can be -- you can install our
Switchboard Mod.
The mod is a small board (about 3" x 4") that holds two filters. They can
be SSB or CW -- not mixed. But there is room for two boards if you
wish to cascade filters for both modes.
For example: for SSB, the OEM filter comes out of the radio. Two filters
get soldered onto the Switchboard mod -- it can be the OEM filter and one of
ours, or two of ours. The mod gets mounted inside the case and the
connections go to a small board that goes to where the original SSB filter
was.
The same is true for CW -- two filters on the mod board, and a coax
connection to a small board that plugs into the CW option slot.
There is an existing hole in the bottom of the radio's case, up front, right
in the middle. A small toggle switch is mounted there. The operator can
toggle the Switchboard mod in & out with his little finger as he tunes
around the bands. If he is in SSB mode, the SSB filters will cascade; if he
is in CW mode, the CW filters will cascade (assuming he has installed two
Switchboard mods) (In other words, there is
just the one switch, even for two mods).
The first (widest) filter on the board is the default filter. When the mod
is toggled "on," then BOTH filters are cascaded. It is not a matter of "one
or the other" it is "one, or both in cascade."
The SSB and CW filters noted above are the filters for the mod (or Yaesu
filters). These filters do NOT come on little pc boards -- they come plain,
and will be soldered onto the Switchboard mod. They are $115 each.
If a customer starts with one of our SSB filters, on the SSB Adapter Board,
and later decides to install the Switchboard mod, he can take the filter off
the Adapter Board and use it on the Switchboard, of course.
We are told all the time that it makes the rig very competitive. The
Switchboard Mod sells for $80. It takes about two hours to install. The instructions are very detailed, and include photos and diagrams.
